Day 0 - Departure

Departure - June 25 - 26

After spending the afternoon at the "Opernfest" in Frankfurt, I started my journey to China. The Air China flight for Beijing left Frankfurt at 8pm with a minor delay. The flight was mostly uneventful and I landed in Beijing with a 45-minutes delay.

My connecting flight for Hong Kong was scheduled to leave 90 minutes after landing. Thus, the 45-minute-delay increased my stress levels instantly. To make up for the lost time, I had to run through the poorly ventilated Terminal 3 of Peking Airport. In a hurry I passed passport control (even just for a transfer) and security controls to finally arrive at the gate. I had already given up on making the flight, but to my surprise, it just started boarding.

As it turns out, my connecting flight was delayed by one hour, which was really lucky for me. I would not have made it, without the delay. Still, I was fully soaked with sweat because in the rush, I did not take of my sweater I was wearing during the previous flight while running through the overheated airport. The rest of the journey was rather uneventful. I arrived in Hong Kong around 5pm and travelled to the Hotel using the MTR. While entering the city with the Hong Kong Express, I felt a sense of nostalgia looking at the scenery driving by.

I soon discovered, that Bella's flight was delayed by three hours. Thus, the first evening back in Hong Kong, I treated myself to Dim Sum and beer with a good friend.

Reviews:

Frankfurt Airport (6/10): Quite solid airport, but you need to walk quite far to reach your gates. The security equipment seems a little outdated and should be replaced with the fancy new ones (where you do not need to remove your electronics)

Air China (5/10): The Airline does the job of bringing you from A to B (even if it isn't always on time). They still struggle with the add-ons. It was impossible to check-in online and their communication/organization is not great, as they mainly rely on Chinese content translated automatically to English.

Beijing Airport (3/10): Where do we start? The Airport did its job, but as a foreigner it was very hard to navigate. Most of the staff barely speaks English, and a lot of the English signage is not up to date, sending you to the wrong direction. In addition to all of that, the temperature is too high for compfort (but that is probably good for the environment I guess)

Hong Kong Airport (8/10): Airport that was designed with international travelers in mind: good signage, efficient immigration, and convenient transportation to the city.

Ding Dim 1968 (8/10): Good Dim Sum place located in LKF. Mid-Price range
